Musa beccarii is a type of wild banana found in Malaysia, specifically in Sabah on the island of Borneo. It belongs to the Callimusa section of the Musa genus. This plant grows up to 1.2 meters tall and has up to 12 suckers. Its flower bud is bright scarlet with green-tipped bracts, and its fruit is thin and green. Musa beccarii can be found in damp areas at the edge of lowland forests and grass fields, up to an elevation of 49 meters. It is named after Italian naturalist Odoardo Beccari and has two subspecies, Musa beccarii subsp. beccarii and Musa beccarii subsp. hottana. The entire DNA genome of this species has been mapped, revealing that it has larger chromosome pairs compared to other Musa species and adding to the diversity of genes in the genus.
