Costus barbatus, also known as spiral ginger, is a perennial plant that is commonly cultivated due to its striking red inflorescence. Its dark green foliage is fuzzy underneath and it produces long red inflorescences with bright yellow tubular flowers. This plant is native to Costa Rica and is pollinated by hummingbirds. It is also popular as a cut flower, with clumps easily spreading and reaching heights of up to six feet.
