Cyphostemma currorii, also known as Koba or Butter-tree, is a succulent tree that belongs to the Vitaceae family. It can reach a height of 6 meters or more and is commonly found in hot, arid rocky areas in southern Angola and Namibia, particularly on the Brandberg. The tree has a distinctive appearance, with creamy, papery peeling bark and long trunks with branches and leaves arranged in groups of threes. The leaves are large and fleshy with dentated edges, allowing the tree to preserve water and survive in dry conditions. While the foliage and fruit of this tree are not suitable for human consumption due to their high oxalic acid content, they are a food source for animals in the area. Cyphostemma currorii is often used as an ornamental tree in landscaping due to its ability to thrive in harsh environments. The species was named after Andrew B. Curror, a Royal Navy surgeon who first collected specimens of the tree in the 1840s. The genus Curroria Planch. is also named after him.
