This is a summary of Streptosolen jamesonii, a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the family Solanaceae. It is closely related to the genus Browallia, and is native to Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru. It is also known as the marmalade bush or fire bush, and has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It is used as an emergency food for cattle, and in Ecuadorian folk medicine as a tonic. In Peru, it is used as a pediatric anthelmintic. It contains alkaloids such as nornicotine, nicotine, and anabasine, which have depressant and stimulant effects. It is assigned a code number '4' by the California Poison Control System, indicating a major health risk if consumed in large amounts.
