Solandra grandiflora, also known as the showy chalicevine or papaturra, is a climbing plant with large, trumpet-shaped flowers. It is part of the nightshade family and is native to Central and South America. While it is commonly grown as an ornamental plant in tropical regions, its green parts contain toxic tropane alkaloids that can cause hallucinations and even death. However, the ripe fruit is said to be edible and has a taste similar to apples or melons. Ingestion of any part of the plant can lead to symptoms such as dry throat, headache, weakness, fever, delirium, and potentially fatal respiratory and circulatory failure.
