Physalis walteri, also known as Walter's groundcherry or dune groundcherry, is a flowering plant found in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and Northeast Mexico. It typically grows in pinelands and open coastal areas. This perennial herb can reach a height of 2 feet and produces yellow flowers from May to September. Its stems are covered in small hairs and its leaves range from 3 to 13 cm in length and 1.5 to 5 cm in width. The plant is named after Thomas Walter, a British botanist who settled in Charleston, South Carolina in the 18th century.
