Ipomoea costata, also known as rock morning glory, is a native plant found in northern Australia. Its purple-blue-pink flowers bloom from February to November and it can grow up to 3 meters high. The plant has broad, leathery leaves and produces tubers that are a source of bush tucker for Aboriginal peoples, known as bush potato or karnti. It is commonly found in sandy or rocky soils and is also known by various names in different Aboriginal languages. The tubers are traditionally cooked on coals and are an important food source for Indigenous communities.
