Ipomoea calobra, also known as weir vine, is a native Australian plant found in the northern regions of the country, particularly in Western Australia and Queensland. It is a climbing plant that can reach up to 6 meters in height and produces trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of purple, blue, and pink from January to June. It thrives in sandy and clayey soils and is often found growing on other plants such as mulga and acacias. The tubers of this plant are edible and were a staple food source for Indigenous Australians, with similar nutritional value to sweet potatoes. In different regions of Australia, it is known by various Aboriginal names such as kulyu and wutha/wather.
