Cuscuta pacifica, also known as goldenthread, is a species of dodder found along the coast of western North America. It is a parasitic plant that relies on other plants for nutrients and has no roots. Its yellowish thread-like stems wrap around host plants and it produces bell-shaped white flowers. Recent studies have shown that waterfowl may play a role in dispersing its seeds. The species has two varieties, with Cuscuta pacifica var. pacifica being more common and Cuscuta pacifica var. papillata being a rare endemic found in sand-dune habitats. This species was previously considered to be two varieties of Cuscuta salina, but has since been recognized as a distinct species with specific habitat and host preferences.
