Calystegia sepium, also known as hedge bindweed, is a flowering plant found in temperate regions of the North and South hemispheres. It is a twining herbaceous perennial that can grow up to 5 meters in height. The plant has pale green leaves and produces white or pale pink trumpet-shaped flowers from late spring to the end of summer. After flowering, it develops a spherical capsule containing dark brown or black seeds. Hedge bindweed is commonly found in hedges, fields, borders, and open woods. While appreciated for its flowers, it can also be a vigorous weed that can overwhelm and pull down other plants. It is highly sensitive to the herbicide glyphosate, but eradication may require multiple treatments. There are several similar species, including Calystegia silvatica and Convolvulus arvensis.
