It is a small tree or shrub, growing up to 10 meters tall, with glossy leaves and small, inconspicuous flowers. Its closest relatives are found in Africa and Madagascar, suggesting a shared evolutionary history. This genus is unique in its family, as it is the only one found in Australia and is considered a distinct clade within the Hamamelidaceae family. Its sole species, Noahdendron nicholasii, is found only in the rainforests of northeastern Queensland and is a small tree or shrub with glossy leaves and small flowers.
