Umbilicus rupestris, also known as navelwort, penny-pies, or wall pennywort, is a perennial flowering plant in the stonecrop family. Its name comes from the round shape of its leaves, which have a navel-like depression in the center. It grows to an average height of 25 cm and produces greenish-pink flowers in May. This plant is found in southern and western Europe, often growing on shady walls or in damp rock crevices. It is not currently threatened. While it is sometimes used in homeopathic medicine, it should not be confused with the unrelated Asiatic pennywort. Navelwort has been historically used for various medicinal purposes, including treating inflammations, kidney problems, and skin conditions. It is also believed to have vulnerary properties, meaning it can help heal wounds and ease pain.
