Dudleya cymosa subsp. marcescens is a unique species of succulent plant found in the Santa Monica Mountains in California. It is known for its deciduous habit, where its leaves wither in the summer and are not replaced until after the first rains. It produces small, bright yellow flowers with 5 petals, and is distinguished from other local species by its slender caudex and narrower leaves. Due to its restricted distribution and vulnerability to habitat degradation, it is listed as a threatened species. This plant is believed to have a neotenous trait, which is common in the genus Dudleya. It is found on north-facing slopes and outcroppings, and is threatened by disturbances from recreational activities such as graffiti and rock climbing.
