Arytera distylis, also known as the two-leaved coogera or twin-leaved coogera, is a rainforest tree found in eastern Australia. It typically grows near streams or in coastal rainforests, ranging from the Orara River in New South Wales to Maryborough in Queensland. The tree is easily identifiable by its twin leaf foliage, which gives it its common name. Its scientific name, Arytera, comes from the Greek word for "cup", referring to the cup-shaped fruit valves. The tree can reach heights of over 20 meters and has smooth greyish bark and hairy young shoots. Its leaves are pinnate and alternate, usually with two leaflets, and vary in shape from ovate-oblong to lanceolate or elliptical. The tree produces small cream-colored flowers in September to October, and its fruit is an orange/yellow dry capsule with one to three hairy lobes. The seeds, which are partially covered in orange or red aril, are eaten by rainforest birds and can be planted for regeneration. Germination occurs within three to eight weeks.
