, Australia. It is a member of the Meliaceae family and is commonly known as Australian mahogany or hairy rosewood. It can grow up to 40 meters tall and has a stem diameter of 90 cm. The leaves are dull green on top and brighter green underneath, with 5-17 cm long leaflets that are lanceolate in shape. The tree produces white, pleasantly scented flowers from December to February, which eventually turn into round yellowish capsules containing cream-colored seeds. The wood of this tree is mostly white with a red heartwood core and is vulnerable to attack from the lyctus borer. The Hairy Rosewood is found in eastern Australia, from Bulahdelah to the McIlwraith Range, and is able to grow in a variety of soils and rainforest types.
