Cedrela angustifolia, also known as cedro de Tucumán, is a tree species in the mahogany family found in South America. It is commonly found in mountain forests and can easily grow in disturbed areas, forming a dense canopy. While it is still prevalent in Bolivia and parts of Argentina, it is considered an endangered species due to declines in its population. In the past, Andean cedar trees were abundant in southern Peru, but they have been depleted over time. One notable tree, estimated to be over 300 years old, can still be found in the Monasterio Hotel in Cusco. Unfortunately, there are no current efforts to revive this species in Peru, as non-native eucalyptus trees are preferred for their fast growth and are used for timber and fuel in the area.
