Commiphora africana, also known as African myrrh, is a small deciduous tree found in various countries in sub-Saharan Africa. It is closely related to C. glandulosa and is known for its grey-green bark, trifoliate leaves, and reddish fruits. The tree's fruits and roots are edible, and its leaves are sought after by animals during the dry season. C. africana is highly sensitive to humidity and is the first tree to come into leaf during the wet season. It is also used for medicinal purposes, as its various parts have been found to treat a range of ailments. Additionally, the tree's wood is used for carving and its oil has fungicidal properties.
