Searsia lucida, previously known as Rhus lucida, is a small tree or shrub that typically grows to a height of 2 meters. Its stems and branches are upright and red in color, with shiny and sticky young stems. The leaves are trifoliate, leathery, and dark to olive green in color, with a shiny appearance. The tree produces creamy-white flowers and spherical fruits that are initially green and turn shiny brown when mature. It is commonly found in scrub or forest areas in South Africa, from sea level to 2000 meters above. This species closely resembles Searsia pallens and Searsia undulata, but can be distinguished by its broader, oval-shaped leaflets and fewer lateral veins. It has a wide distribution range along the West Coast of South Africa and stretches into neighboring countries.
