Searsia chirindensis is a medium-sized tree found in Southern Africa, growing up to 10 meters tall and often found in a variety of habitats. It is named after the Chirinda Forest in Southern Rhodesia and is one of over a hundred species in the genus. The tree is commonly known as red currant due to the appearance of its fruit. In traditional medicine, the bark of this tree has been used to treat convulsions and epilepsy, and laboratory studies have shown potential for its use in these conditions. This supports its traditional use in some rural communities in South Africa.
