Arceuthobium divaricatum, also known as pinyon dwarf mistletoe, is a small shrub native to the southwestern United States and Baja California in Mexico. It is a parasitic plant that attaches to various species of pine, particularly Colorado pinyon and single-leaf pinyon. The mistletoe is mostly hidden inside the host tree, with only its scaly brown or greenish stems visible above the bark. It has reduced leaves and is dioecious, with separate male and female plants producing staminate and pistillate flowers. The fruit is a sticky berry that explodes to disperse its seeds several meters away from the parent plant and its host tree.
