Strombosia ceylanica is a tree belonging to the Olacaceae family, with the specific epithet ceylanica derived from the Latin word for Ceylon. It can reach heights of up to 40 meters and has a trunk diameter of 60 centimeters. The bark is grey to brown, and the flowers are greenish white. The tree produces roundish fruits that are pink to purple and can grow up to 2.5 cm in diameter. The wood of this tree is commonly used in house construction. It is found naturally in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo, and can be found in forests at altitudes ranging from sea-level to 1,000 meters.
