Amyema plicatula is a hemi-parasitic shrub species that can be found in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, New South Wales, and Queensland. It is an aerial stem-parasitic shrub with elliptic to obovate leaves that are usually opposite and have no obvious venation. The flowers are red and occur in umbels, with the primary stalk being 12-20 mm long. The fruits are ellipsoid to obovoid and can reach 7-10 mm in length. This species is found in remnant rainforests and open humid forests, and it is a member of the mistletoe order within the Loranthaceae family. Its genus name, Amyema, comes from the Greek words for 'without' and 'to instruct'. The only known host plant for this species is Dysoxylum fraseranum in the Meliaceae family.
