Industrial and craft applications:
Bast fibers from the stems of Oreocnide frutescens are used in traditional papermaking in parts of China. The fiber is processed by retting and beating into pulps for handmade papers where strength and opacity are valued, especially for calligraphy and drawing. The fiber’s morphology—long, slender, and relatively high cellulose content—contributes to good tensile and tear properties in such products. These uses are documented in regional Floras and ethnobotanical surveys.
