Waldsteinia fragarioides, also known as Appalachian barren strawberry or just barren strawberry, is a low, spreading plant with yellow flowers that bloom in early spring. It is commonly used as an underplanting in perennial gardens and is native to eastern North America. Despite its similar appearance to other plants in the rose family, it lacks runners and has rounded leaves. This plant is evergreen and has a variety of medicinal uses in Native American cultures, including being used as a blood remedy and for treating snakebites. However, it is listed as endangered or threatened in several states in the United States, highlighting the need for conservation efforts.
