Rubus nessensis is a type of bramble that is commonly found in Northwestern Europe, specifically in Great Britain and Ireland. It has two recognized subspecies, R. n. nessensis and R. n. cubirianus. This shrub can grow up to 2-3 meters tall and has green stems in shaded areas, but brownish stems in areas with more light. It is easily identified by its numerous purple prickles on the stem and its leaves with 5-7 leaflets, including a large terminal leaflet. The fruit of this species is dark red, setting it apart from other members of the Rubus subgenus Rubus, except for Rubus scissus which lacks the conical prickles. Rubus nessensis is commonly found in riverside woodlands and is widespread throughout Northwestern Europe, with strongholds in certain areas of Great Britain and Ireland.
