Rubus macraei, also known as ʻĀkalakala, is a species of Rubus found only in Hawaii. It is closely related to another Hawaiian species, Rubus hawaiensis, but genetic differences suggest they arrived in Hawaii separately. R. macraei is more distantly related to Asian and North American species of subgenus Idaeobatus. It typically grows close to the ground and can be found in wet forests, bogs, and subalpine shrublands at elevations between 1,610 and 2,080 meters on the Big Island and East Maui.
