Rosa brunonii, commonly known as the Himalayan musk rose, is a deciduous or semi-evergreen climber found in the foothills of the Himalayas. It blooms in May with five-petalled white flowers about 3-4 cm across, filled with a mass of yellow stamens. The stems are prickly and the leaves are finely-toothed ovals with pointed tips. Rosa moschata, found in the western Himalayas, is very similar but has smooth branches and leaf stalks without prickles. Wild pink roses, or Rosa macrophylla, are also common. The flowers produce a red rounded fruit known as a rose-hip, which is used to make walking sticks, an attar, a soothing cough syrup, and a marmalade.
