Rhamnus alnifolia, also known as alderleaf buckthorn or alder buckthorn, is a flowering plant in the buckthorn family. Unlike other buckthorns, it does not have thorns. This species is native to North America and can be found in forested areas. It is a spreading shrub that can grow up to 1.5 meters tall and has thin branches with deciduous leaves. The leaves are oval-shaped and have pointed tips with toothed edges. The plant produces small flowers and female flowers produce drupes that are used as a laxative by Native Americans. This species is mainly found in the southern half of Canada, the northern half of the United States, and California.
