Celtis jessoensis, also known as the Japanese hackberry or Jesso hackberry, is a deciduous tree found in Japan and Korea. It can reach heights of 20-25 meters and has distinct leaves that are 5-9 cm long and 3-4 cm wide. The leaves have a serrated edge, are glaucous on the underside, and have a downy texture on the veins. This tree is named after the archaic reading of "Ezo" for Hokkaidō, the northernmost island of Japan.
