Clematis viorna, also known as vasevine or leatherflower, is a flowering vine that is native to the southeastern United States. It can grow up to four meters long and has stems that are mostly hairless. The leaves are usually divided into four to eight leaflets and can range from unlobed to deeply divided. The plant produces bell-shaped to broadly-urn shaped flowers in shades of purple and reddish-purple. It was first described by Linnaeus in 1753 and is found in forests and woodlands, as well as on cliffs and stream banks. It is most commonly found on mafic substrates. The flowers bloom in spring and summer.
