Gymnospermium albertii is a tuberous perennial species in the Berberidaceae family native to Soviet Central Asia. It has five lobed leaflets that are bronze-tinged and rolled lengthways when young, expanding and turning pale green with maturity. Its inflorescences are pendent at first, later becoming upright and densely flowered. Flowers are bright yellow with a coppery red exterior and measure up to 2.5 cm in diameter when fully open. It is easily raised from seed and is very hardy, growing well in open, well-drained soil and unheated glasshouses. The name Gymnospermium is derived from Greek, meaning 'naked seed', and Albertii is named for Johann Albert Von Regel, collector of the type specimen and son of the author of the species, Eduard August von Regel.
