Epimedium pinnatum is a flowering plant that belongs to the barberry family and is native to northern Iran. It is an evergreen perennial with oval hairy leaves and bright yellow spurred flowers that bloom in late spring and early summer. The plant grows to about 30 cm tall and is slowly-spreading. Its Latin name, pinnatum, refers to the leaves growing on either side of the stalk. The subspecies E. pinnatum subsp. colchicum has been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society and has received the Award of Garden Merit. It is recommended to be grown in moist and fertile soil in a sheltered and partially-shaded area, making it suitable for underplanting shrubs and trees.
