Xylomelum pyriforme, also known as the woody pear, is a species of plant found in eastern Australia. It was first documented in 1770 and given its current name in 1809. It grows as a large shrub or small tree, with dark green leaves that can reach up to 20 cm in length. The plant produces rusty-colored flowers from September to November, followed by large, woody, pear-shaped seed pods. It is found in nutrient-poor sandstone soils and is associated with other tree species. Xylomelum pyriforme regenerates after bushfires and is one of many Australian plants that require fire to disperse their seeds. The plant is rarely seen in cultivation due to the scarcity of its seeds and is used for making gun stocks.
