Protea pudens, also known as the bashful sugarbush, is a low-growing, groundcover-like, flowering shrub found only in a small area in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It was first described in 1979 and blooms in the winter with deep pink flowers. The plant is monoecious and pollination occurs through birds. It grows in a specific type of soil and is at risk due to habitat loss, invasive plants, and wild flower harvesting. It is listed as endangered on the Red data list of southern African plants and its population is prone to fluctuations due to wildfires.
