In 1804, the plant was grown in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, from seed collected by George Caley in the Blue Mountains. The species was grown in the Sydney Botanic Gardens in 1818, and in the Melbourne Botanic Gardens in 1846.
Persoonia levis, also known as the broad-leaved geebung, is a shrub native to New South Wales and Victoria in eastern Australia. It can reach up to 5 meters in height and has dark grey bark and bright green asymmetrical leaves. The plant produces small yellow flowers in summer and autumn, followed by green fleshy fruit. It is a member of the Lanceolata group within the genus Persoonia, and can interbreed with other species in this group. P. levis is adapted to a fire-prone environment and can resprout after bushfires. It is also able to regenerate from a ground-stored seed bank. The plant is pollinated by a longtongue bee and its fruit is consumed by various vertebrates. Although it is rare in cultivation due to difficulties in propagation, P. levis is known for its colorful bark and leaves and can grow in well-drained sandy soils in sun or part shade.
