Helicia symplocoides is a tree belonging to the Proteaceae family and is native to Borneo. Its name is derived from the genus Symplocos, due to the resemblance of its leaves. It can grow up to 15 meters tall with a trunk diameter of 25 cm. The leaves are obovate and can reach up to 10 cm in length. The fruits are ellipsoid and turn black when dried. This species is only found in Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo, specifically in Kinabalu Park and hill forests. It has been classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to threats from mining and urban development in Sarawak. However, its presence in Kinabalu Park provides some protection for the Sabah subpopulation.
