Banksia sceptrum, also known as the sceptre banksia, is a plant native to Western Australia. It grows along the central west coast, extending inland to Mullewa. The plant was first collected and grown by early settler James Drummond and described by Swiss botanist Carl Meissner in 1855. B. sceptrum is a tall shrub that grows in deep yellow or pale red sand and is known for its striking yellow flower spikes. It is a reseeder, meaning it regenerates by seed after being killed by fire. The plant is closely related to B. ashbyi and is found in association with other species such as mallee gums and sandplain cypress. B. sceptrum is susceptible to dieback from the soil-borne water mould Phytophthora cinnamomi and its range may be affected by climate change. It is commonly used in the cut flower industry and can be grown in gardens with a Mediterranean climate and good drainage.
