Leptocarpus laxus is a species of rush plant that belongs to the Restionaceae family and is found exclusively in the south-west region of Western Australia. It thrives in moist to wet environments such as swamps, creeks, and wetlands. The species was first described by Robert Brown in 1810 as Restio laxus, but this name was later corrected by Kurt Sprengel in 1825 to Restio diffusus. In 1998, it was transferred to the genus Leptocarpus by Lawrie Johnson and Barbara Briggs. In 2001, the species was renamed Leptocarpus laxus by Barbara Briggs in accordance with IUCN rules.
