Triticum urartu, also known as red wild einkorn wheat, is a type of grass species that is closely related to wheat. It is native to western Asia and is a diploid species, meaning it has two sets of chromosomes. Its genome is the A genome of the hexaploid bread wheat Triticum aestivum, which has three sets of chromosomes. This makes Triticum urartu an important ancestor of modern wheat and a valuable resource for genetic studies.
