Schizachne is a genus of plants found in Eurasia and North America. It belongs to the grass family and has only one accepted species, Schizachne purpurascens, also known as false melic. There are three recognized subspecies of this plant. Previously, another species, Melica smithii, was considered part of the genus but is now classified separately.
