Puccinellia pumila, also known as dwarf akaligrass or smooth alkali grass, is a type of grass native to North America. It can be found along the coastline in northern latitudes, from Alaska to Greenland, and on the coast of the Pacific Northwest in the United States. This perennial grass grows in wetland habitats, beaches, and areas with high tides, and is typically found in saline sand and mud. It can grow up to 40 centimeters in height, but often remains smaller due to harsh conditions. Puccinellia pumila is listed as a special concern species in the United States, with some populations believed to be extirpated in Connecticut and considered historical in Rhode Island.
