Phyllostachys rubromarginata, also known as the reddish bamboo or red margin bamboo, is a species of bamboo native to Central China. Its name comes from the reddish stripe on the margins of its newly sprouted culm sheaths. This cold-hardy bamboo grows and spreads quickly, making it a popular choice for creating tall screens. It can reach heights of 4 to 9 meters, with some reports of it growing up to 16 meters in China. Its dark green culms are 2.5 to 6 cm in diameter and spaced 22-31 cm apart. It is able to tolerate cold temperatures as low as -24°C. In China, it is used for basket making and is also popular as an ornamental plant in North America. Its shoots are edible and it is commonly found in the wild in Guangxi and Guizhou, as well as cultivated in Henan.
