Muhlenbergia californica, also known as California muhly, is a rare type of grass found only in the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California. It typically grows in moist areas like streambanks and ditches in chaparral and woodland habitats. This perennial grass has rhizomes and can reach heights of 30 to 70 centimeters. Its inflorescence is made up of thin branches with small, pointed or awned spikelets covered in hair, each measuring a few millimeters in length.
