Leersia hexandra, also known as southern cutgrass, clubhead cutgrass, and swamp rice grass, is a perennial grass with a pantropical distribution. It is often introduced as an agricultural weed in various regions and can become invasive. It is commonly found in wet and moist habitats, providing food and shelter for animals. It is also cultivated as a forage for livestock. Despite its sharp leaf edges, it is palatable to cattle and is used as a pasture grass. This species is also a hyperaccumulator of heavy metals, making it a potential agent for phytoremediation in efforts to clean up metal-contaminated soils and water. However, it can also host many pests and diseases that affect rice plants, making it a problematic weed in rice fields.
