Festuca psammophila is a type of grass found only in Central Europe. It is a perennial plant with long stems and smooth leaves. The plant has an open panicle with smooth branches and oblong spikelets that carry fertile florets. The glumes are lanceolate and keelless, with different sizes and apexes. The fertile lemma is also glaucous and ovate, with one awn and an acuminated apex. The plant has three stamens and ellipsoid fruits with a linear hilum.
