Festuca pilgeri is a type of grass that is found only in East Africa. It is a perennial plant with clumped stems that can grow up to 40-60 centimeters long. The leaves have a smooth surface with hairs and are 10-30 centimeters long and 0.75 millimeters wide. The plant produces linear panicles that are 8-20 centimeters long and have oblong spikelets with 3-5 fertile florets. The glumes, which are the protective coverings of the spikelets, have sharp tips and are different sizes. The fertile lemma, which contains the flower, is elliptic and has a rough surface with a short awn. The flowers have three stamens and a hairy ovary, while the fruits are caryopses with a hairy apex. Overall, Festuca pilgeri is a unique and distinct grass species that is native to East Africa.
