Fargesia murielae, commonly known as the umbrella bamboo, is a species of flowering plant in the family Poaceae. It is native to the mountains of central China and was introduced by Ernest Henry Wilson in 1913. It is a large, clump-forming evergreen bamboo with yellow canes and graceful weeping habit. It is hardy to -15°C (5°F) and grows up to 10-14 ft (3-4 m). It prefers moderately fertile soil which is moist but well-drained and well aerated and a slightly acidic environment. It is non-invasive, making it suitable for the home landscape. It has a monocarpic life cycle, meaning it flowers once in its life and then dies. It was granted the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1993.
