Bromus japonicus, also known as the Japanese brome, is an annual grass native to Eurasia with a diploid number of 14. It grows up to 1 meter tall and has pubescent sheaths and leaf blades. The panicles are open and secund, with lanceolate spikelets and 6-12 florets. The grass flowers from June to August and can be found in fields, waste places, and road verges. It is considered a noxious weed in prairies as it competes with native plants for resources. Although it is native to Eurasia, it has been naturalized in the United States and southern Canada.
