It is commonly found in pastures, roadsides, and other areas with well-drained soils. It is also tolerant of drought and can survive harsh conditions, earning it the common name "rescuegrass."

Uses

Bromus catharticus is used as a forage grass, providing valuable grazing for livestock after harsh winters or droughts. It is also used for erosion control and as a cover crop. In some areas, it is considered an invasive species and efforts are being made to control its spread.

Overall, Bromus catharticus is a coarse grass with a diploid number of 42. It is native to South America but has been introduced to other regions, including Europe, Australia, and North America. Its ability to provide forage after harsh conditions has earned it the common name "rescuegrass." It is commonly found in open and disturbed areas and has various uses, including as a forage grass, erosion control, and cover crop. However, it is also considered an invasive species in some areas.
