Bothriochloa barbinodis, commonly known as cane bluestem, is a perennial bunchgrass native to the Americas. It grows in upright clumps up to 120 centimeters tall, with straw-colored stems and blue-green leaves that dry to a reddish yellow. Its inflorescence is a feathery array of spikelet units, each composed of one hairy, tan, fertile spikelet with a twisted awn and a smaller, sterile spikelet without an awn. The grass is drought resistant and is used as a forage for grazing animals and a groundcover for revegetating cleared land. It is also grown as an ornamental plant for its showy inflorescences, but is considered an invasive species in some areas, such as Hawaii.
